LUBRICATION PUMP REBUILD INSTRUCTIONS

(CRANKSHAFT DRIVEN)

Repair kits, RP-1062 and RP-1063, are available to rebuild crankshaft driven lube oil pumps on late 6-466, 6076, 6619 and 6101 engines.  Assembly instructions will be included in each kit.  It is essential that the instructions be carefully followed to properly position the idler shaft.  Upon completion of the repair, spin the gears to assure no binding or interference exists.

INSTRUCTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

1.  Disassemble pump removing cover and gears.  Loosen the jam nut, remove the setscrew, and press out the shaft for the idler gear.

2.  Carefully inspect the housing for defects such as wear patterns from previous use, especially in the bottom of the housing and cover.  Also make sure the idler shaft has not “wallowed out” the shaft bore or that the housing is not cracked.

3.  Clean component parts of any debris or protective coatings.

4.  Install the drive gear and idler into pump housing.  The gears will act as a guide and support to align the idler shaft.

5.  Install the idler shaft and press until the chamfered end just protrudes out of the bore on the back side.

6.  Spin the gears to assure smooth rotation and ensure that no binding exists.

7.  Install the pump cover and tighten cover-to-housing cap screws to 30 lb.-ft. (41N.m.).

8.  Tighten the setscrew until it lightly touches the shaft of idler gear.  Hold the setscrew and torque the lock nut to 6 lb.-ft. (8N.m.).  Spin the drive shaft to assure smooth rotation in housing.  Readjust the setscrew if the shaft does not turn freely.

9.  Check endplay of drive shaft.  Maximum 0.0006 in. (0.15mm).
